In an apartment where the walls weren't moving, the floor became the single biggest design decision. This early-2000s Waterloo unit still had its original fit-out, with worn carpet breaking each room into its own small, disconnected space. Convict Interiors saw that replacing it was the fastest way to change how the whole home felt, and to deliver the client's brief for something with the calm of a day spa. Oak by Woodez Caspian engineered European oak now runs unbroken from the entry through the living areas, giving the apartment one continuous, natural surface that draws the eye along its length and makes every room read as part of the same home. The warmth of the oak does the work that colour and decoration usually do, so the rest of the palette could stay quiet and restrained. Behind the look is a board built for apartment life. A multi-ply European Birch core keeps it stable through Sydney's humidity swings, and the prefinished surface meant MJP Projects could install with minimal disruption and no on-site sanding or coating. The result is a floor that sets the tone the moment the door opens, and is made to stay that way.
